Who was Nebrija?

Antonio de Nebrija was the author of the first grammar of a romance language: Gramática de la lengua Castellana, published in 1492, the date of Columbus’ first voyage to America.

In 1492 Antonio de Nebrija presented his Grammar to Queen Isabel. Five hundred years later, in 1992, Professor Alonso Zamora Vicente, President of the Antonio de Nebrija Foundation, together with the President and other members of the Board of Trustees, presented a new edition of the Grammar to Queen Sofia of Spain.
