Descrição dos cursos

Art in Spain

  • This course will analyze the main artistic manifestations in painting in Madrid and will provide you with the tools to identify, classify, understand, criticize and appreciate the most relevant Spanish art works, particularly those to be found in Madrid.
You will have the opportunity to learn by seeing, feeling, living the art and its expressions in Madrid as you study the painted art works in a multimedia environment.  To this end, you will explore the most relevant museums in Madrid that hold the artistic expressions of the painters studied in this course.  In your study of painting you will be able to recognize and personally analyze the most important works of Spanish painters such as El Greco, Velázquez, and Goya in the magnificent Prado Museum; and Picasso, Dalí, and other contemporary authors at the Centro de Arte Museo Reina Sofía.

International Management

  • Crisis management and decision-making skills in times of global emergency.
There is a proverb that says: “You cannot keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” Planning and organization are essential tools in international management, including governments, companies and other actors in the international arena. This course deals with multiple functions of management, such as organizing, coordinating, planning, and staffing in an international cross-cultural context, especially in current features that require professional skills for crisis management that affect organizations and decision-making processes to face global emergencies (e.g. COVID-19 crisis).
This course will focus on the complexity of international management and students will learn how diverse national cultures affect management functions in different ways. During this course, high impact simulators, scenarios and activities will be used to discuss issues such as communication in times of crisis, conflict management, decision-making techniques, ethical conflicts and leadership during difficult times.

European Studies: Culture, History and Integration

  • The European continent has been through some major changes in recent decades and with the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic it is facing one of its biggest challenges ever. Remaining united in diversity while holding back extreme nationalism from flourishing again is not an easy task.
In this course you will learn about the European Union, what it is and how it is coping with the current situation, and how that might deeply change the face of Europe. We will discuss how European Institutions work and what their roles are in this crisis. Moreover, we will discuss about the different views Europeans have on the aftermath of the pandemic and what their criticisms and concerns are in this new world scenario. We will also look back through European history of the 20th and 21st centuries to examine some of its most challenging moments and their consequences.

Intercultural Communication

  • Why living peacefully and working effectively in multicultural environments is more important now than ever.
The pandemic we are now fighting has revealed itself as an opportunity to learn how to be more flexible, creative and how to deal with uncertain and ambiguous situations. Unfortunately, it has also stoked fear and intolerance against those who are different and, consequently, fractured societies and ideas of segregation may emerge. Collaborating cross-culturally and promoting intercultural understanding is more important now than ever. Therefore, developing intercultural skills in this new global world will be essential to advance and succeed both personally and professionally. These skills enable professionals to work well among various cultures, feel more comfortable doing business internationally, communicate effectively in culturally diverse environments, manage multicultural teams, and resolve all kinds of culture-related conflicts. In this course we will discuss: stereotypes, ethnocentrism, different cultural dimensions, communication styles (both verbal and non-verbal), intercultural and global skills, conflict management and cultural adjustment among others.
